Tesla Powerwall 3: What Homeowners Should Know

Capacity, backup power, and warranty on Tesla's Powerwall 3 — in plain English.

What Powerwall 3 is

Powerwall 3 is Tesla's integrated home solar-and-battery system. Each unit stores 13.5 kWh of usable energy and can deliver up to 11.5 kW of continuous AC power — enough to run heavy loads like air conditioning, well pumps, and induction cooktops. A single unit is sized to cover the essential loads of most homes; up to four Powerwalls and three expansion units can be stacked for larger backup needs.

Whole-home backup

Paired with a Tesla Gateway (or Backup Switch), Powerwall 3 automatically detects a grid outage and switches your home to battery power. Homeowners manage backup priorities, reserve levels, and energy modes from the Tesla mobile app.

Warranty

Powerwall 3 carries a 10-year limited warranty from Tesla. The full warranty document from Tesla defines coverage, capacity retention, and any exclusions, and controls in the event of any conflict with a summary shown in a proposal.

Frequently asked
